Q: How do I reactivate my profile/membership?
A: You can resume active status at any time by clicking on the
link that says "Activate Profile", when you have your status as being "On
Hold". However, if you’ve requested that your membership be canceled, you would
have to sign-up again and create a new user profile with a new username. Note:
You may have to use a new email account to sign up, as once we have canceled
your membership, you may not be able to re-use the same email address, as our
system may have blocked that email address from future profile activity.
Q: How do I upload photos?
A: Once you have signed in and go to your Member Home Page, you
will see My Photos. Click on that and follow the instructions there. If you
don't have a photo of your own or you would like to add some nautical imagery
to your profile, you may use photos from our Fish
Foto Gallery.
Q: I have tried to upload a photo, but
FishInTheSea.com won't let me. What do I do?
A: First check that the file size and format are correct. You
can check the size and type of the file you wish to update by looking at the
properties of the file you want to upload. To do this point your mouse over the
file and right click the mouse, this will bring up that files menu. At the
bottom of this menu you will see "Properties"; left click on this and you will
be able to see the file type and size. Make sure that it is compatible with the
instructions. If it is not, make any necessary corrections and try to reload it
or choose another photo. There are suggestions on the Website for "Good" and
"Bad" photographs.
Q: The photos I've just uploaded don't appear
yet in my viewable profile. Why?
A: The Company reviews and approves all photographs in advance
of them becoming publicly viewable. The Company does not permit obscene
photographs to be posted. The Company reserves the right to refuse permission
to post a photograph or to remove a photograph you have posted at any time.
Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for
more information.
Q: How long does it take for my photos to be
viewable?
A: Our staff is reviewing photos you post for inappropriate
content, which may include nudity, for example. We have many new members
signing up and do not have staff solely devoted to reviewing photographs 24/7,
as our Company runs very leanly so we can keep our costs down and provide the
profile feature we offer to you free of charge at this time. Photographs posted
over weekends and holidays especially may take a little longer to show on our
Website due to our staff’s work schedule. We appreciate your patience.
Q: Can I upload videos and music files and
other multimedia files?
A: Not at this time. Even if you see these features named on
your Build Profile page, these features have not been enabled yet. We may
enable them in the future and may provide these services to only some of the
members, depending on their level of membership. Please refer to our
Payments policy for more information.
Q: I believe someone has copied one of my
photographs and posted it to your Website in violation of my rights. What can I
do?
A: The Company does not review any photographs or other
material posted to any user's profile for any copyright violation per se; if
you believe that someone has posted an infringing photograph in violation of
your rights, you may serve the Company with a notice under the Digital
Millenium Copyright Act; please refer to our Legal
Notices section for more information.
Q: How do I add tags to my profile?
A: After you have signed in, go to your profile page by
clicking My Profile on the main menu bar. On the sub-menu bar you will see Edit
Profile, Build Profile and Preview Profile. Go to Build Profile. There you will
see a field that allows you to add tags to your profile.
Q: How do I see what others see when they view
my profile?
A: After you have signed in, go to your profile page by
clicking My Profile on the main menu bar. On the sub-menu bar you will see Edit
Profile, Build Profile and Preview Profile. Go to Preview Profile. There you
will be able to see what your profile will look like to other members. If you
want to change how your profile reads, return to Edit Profile and/or Build
Profile to make changes to your profile.
Note: YOU MUST REMEMBER TO CLICK ON THE SAVE BUTTON AT THE BOTTOM OF THE EDIT
PROFILE PAGE EACH TIME YOU CHANGE THE INFORMATION OR THAT INFORMAYTION WILL BE
LOST.
Q: I made changes to my profile. Why weren't
my changes saved?
A: YOU MUST REMEMBER TO CLICK ON THE SAVE BUTTON AT THE BOTTOM
OF THE EDIT PROFILE PAGE EACH TIME YOU CHANGE THE INFORMATION OR THAT
INFORMAYTION WILL BE LOST.
Q: How do I block another member from sending
me email?
A: If you have received inappropriate emails or simply don't want to receive
email from a particular member, you can go to that member's profile page and
instead of contacting that member, you can add him or her to your Blocked List.
If you accidentally block the wrong member, you can correct that by unblocking
him or her by going to your Blocked List on your Member Home page.
Q: What do I do if I feel that I am being
abused by another member?
A: While abuse through our system is rare, as members generally
share the sense of a singles community, this is a public website, and it is
possible that abuse could occur. We take abuse allegations very seriously; we
investigate any allegations and take the appropriate steps to stop the on-line
abuse made through our Website. If you feel you are being abused by another
member by email on our Website, in our forums or chat rooms or otherwise,
please contact us at abuse@FishInTheSea.com
and give full details of the situation; be sure to include the username of the
alleged offending member in your correspondence with us and your username. See
our Terms and Conditions for more
information on abuse.
Q: I've tried to sign in using my username,
but FishInTheSea.com does not recognize it. What should I do?
A: Be sure that you have entered the username exactly as you created it. For
example, if you used spaces in creating it, you must use spaces when you enter
it to sign-in. If you are still unable to get your username to work, try to
enter your entire personal email address that you used when you signed up
instead; that should allow you to access your profile.
Q: What do I do if I forget or lose my
password?
A: On the Sign In page you will see the message: "forgot password". Simply click
on it and then follow the instructions and your password will be sent to you in
an e-mail to your personal email address you used to sign-up with.
Q: There are no events posted for my location.
Why not?
A: The Company is currently hosting events in New York City,
but plans to host events in other cities in the future, including those cities
which are listed on the Website. The more members we have in other locations,
the more likely we will host events in those other locations. If you are
interested in working with us on any Events, you may
contact us regarding Careers.
Q: I've registered for an event, but I cannot
attend. Can I get a refund?
A: Unfortunately, no. We have a strict no refunds policy.
Please refer to our Payments policy for
more information.
Q: I attended an event and want to get in
touch with someone whom I met there. Will the Company give me that person's
personal contact information?
A: While it may be true that the person wants you to contact
them, unfortunately, we cannot provide that person's personal information to
you, unless we have consent in writing from that person. Please refer to our
Privacy Policy for more information.
